Science

In Science we are looking at forces. On the blog please explain how you would find out who in your class has the shoe with the best grip.

How could you find out?

How could you measure?

  1. how:
you could get a surface and drag the shoes along with a forcemetre
and the one with the highest n would have the most grit but all the shoes must be on the same surface

    how do you measure it:
you could use a forcemetre and the same person will pull it along all the time and the same forcemetre all the time

    1. you spelled 'forcemetre' wrong it is 'forcemeter'!!

    2. Actually Soham he has spelt it correctly. meter=American spelling and metre is the British spelling

  2. so there is three people in my class and their names is Steve, Jack and Mary Berry. Steve has grips that are gold but they are plastic. Jack has silver and it is metal. Mary Berry has a rainbow colour one and it is very flexible. The best grip is Jacks because it is silver and it is metal so it looks cool and also it can't break.

    1. How would you find out which has the most grip?

  3. You could find a shoe with the most grip by the lowest number on a force meter.

    1. please go into more detail, what would be your process?

    2. How to find out:

Find a flat surface and drag the shoes around on the same flat surface with a forcemeter, then the one with the highest measure would be the highest grip because lets say this: Mary's shoe= 1 Newton. Terry's shoe= 3 Newtons. Grace's shoe= 4 Newtons. Grace would have the highest grip because her's is 4 Newtons.

    3. How to measure:

You would measure with a forcemeter and the same surface. Someone drags the shoe slowly across the surface, then someone checks the Newtons. You would have to get someone to pull the shoe slowly across the same surface so that it's all the same. ( except the results. ) Also, you'd have to get the same forcemeter because if you don't use the same forcemeter then you would get different results, you could get a broken forcemeter then measure, then switch for a new one, the results wont be right. Just like when some group got their marble result wrong, the powder was too flat.

  4. You could find shoes with different soles which would have different effects on the way that it would grip certain surfaces E.G if you haad plain soles and the snow had frozen you would slide and fall down. If you had soles with a good grip like snow shoes you would not fall or slip as the shoes would keep you safe. The first pair of shoes did not have friction to slow you down where as the second pair of shoes did not have friction.

  5. How?

You will need to have a shoe (no worries what grip or school shoe or trainer just a shoe) then place it on a surface (such as carpet, table, whiteboard, chair ect.). You could drag the shoes with a forcemeter and the one with the highest Newton would basically have the most grip but the same shoe must be on the same surface or else the measurement will not be accurate!!

  6. you would have the shoes and you would have them on a slope and witch ever one stayed on the longest would be the one with the one with the most or best grip as it stayed on longer.one way you could measure it is with how much time it stayed on the slope. thats how or one way you could do it.

  7. To investigate who has the shoe with the best grip follow the procedure below.

    1. Put a weight in the shoe.
    2. Attach a Newton meter to the shoe.
    3. Measure the force needed to pull the shoe over the
    surface.
    4. Repeat the process with all the shoes using the same
weight and surface as this would make it a fair test.
    5. Record the results in a table.
    6. The results will show which type of sole, rough or
    smooth, has more/less friction.

    Further investigation

Use different weights in the shoe and different surfaces for example carpet, tile, wood or a slippery floor. Perhaps you could also measure the force needed to pull the shoe down a slope.

  8. You should get two different type of shoe. And then drag it with a forcemetre onthe sama surface each .And you look at we''re it has a N then you how Newton it has.

  9. To find out who has the most grip on their shoe you could see how long the empty shoe took to slide down a flat tilted object. The person’s shoe that took the longest to get down the slope would have the grippiest shoe. This is because the one with the most grip because while it took longer it would be gripping onto the surface. Or you could measure how deep the grips are. The one with the deepest grips would be grippier because they create more friction than a smooth shoe would.

  10. Two different shoes (any shoes ) get a stopwatch place it on a surface any surface it could be (whiteboard , a table , carpet, chair etc ).Drag the shoes on a the surface then when you then when you put the shoe on the surface. Then time how long it takes to full down stopwatch then check whitch one has the most grip.

  11. How to find the grip of a shoe is to get a big board and place it around 60 degrees. Then place the shoe on top of the board and start the stopwatch when you let go of the shoe. Stop the stopwatch when it reaches the bottom. The more higher the more better.

  12. You will need shoes of any grip.Next get a smooth tilted surface like a huge whiteboard. On piece of paper draw a table but leve it blank for now.You will need to get a stop watch to time how fast the shoe goes down the board.First, get a huge whiteboard next get your shoes and put them at the top of the board.Start the stop watch and realese the shoe and when the shoe gets to the bottom stop the stop watch.Do the same with the rest of the shoes.Once you have done that write done the results on the paper. The shoe with the longest timed shoe has the most grip.

  13. You will have a shoe to find out any grip. Then you will obviously be needing a smooth surface.Next you'll need a stopwatch, paper and pen to write, and you could drag or pull you're shoe and see how much it weighs.
